Is It A Diamond?

Reader would like to know, what is it?

recently we received an e-mail from a reader wondering about a rock he found.  He sent some great pictures and a good description, started a process of elimination but needs just a little more help.  So we decided to post the e-mail and pictures to see if anyone could add just a little to this mystery.  Below is the e-mail and pictures, please feel free to respond with any help…diamond-sm

I may be crazy, but I found this gemstone 2 and a half years ago. I have done many laymen tests on this thing in three years, it does not fog up, it will scratch cobalt steel(8.5-9 on the MOH’s scale)and it looks like it is covered in Vaseline. It’s about 125-130 ct, the edges are pretty much razor sharp. I have bought a 10 dollar amazon tester and a 200$ presidian tester, I don’t believe either one was accurate, just due to the size of this rock. I don’t believe a double a power source can accurately test the thermal capabilities of a rock this size. I am 40 years old, I live in Floyd’s knobs Indiana, I’ve grown up in big Indian creek, always fascinated by fossils. I’ve had no formal education in geology, except for what I’ve googled over the past two and a half years. When I saw this rock I instantly thought it was something different or a big chunk of glass. I have hung onto it and just recently found a geologist forum, they pointed me towards mineral and fossil clubs, where I found you. My brother is a rose human graduate, he is an me, but he has friends that are geologist, from pictures they can’t tell what it is, they mentioned quartz, topaz, or a diamond. I don’t believe it is either topaz or a quartz simply because the corners are all so sharp. I really do not want to let it out of my sight for too long. Is there anyway you could help me see what my rock really is. Thanks for any time or effort you put into helping me.

Why don’t you take it to a local university and have a geologist test it?
